Creative Children’s Camps
JoAnn will design a home-based children’s camp to suit your locale and age level children. The annual camp for our grandchildren is called Camp Mimi. Children’s camps can be for cousins, siblings, neighbors, or young friends. There is security in introducing young children to a home-based camp. She will help you draft a camp song, introduce a camp handshake, choose a theme and give you pointers to following that theme.
Your personal camp design will include activities for the age level children, ideas for camp logos, activities and games, camp rules, and fun camp recipes like butterfly biscuits and worms ‘n dirt (**see recipes below). If you want camp to be a NO WHINE ZONE, that, too, can be addressed with little or no verbal corrections. Ideas are endless and the camp can be as simple or as detailed as the Camp Director (you) wants.
Thought of a good name for your camp? See my web site at: www.joannmatthews.com. If you need ideas, contact me through the link on my web page or via e-mail at ja_matthews@charter.net. We will consider together your endless possibilities depending on your location and situation.
The number of campers is important as to how long you intend to be a camp counselor. Set rules for ages and criteria. Our age requirement is: Must be 3 years, potty-trained, and able to follow instructions. Camp experiences tend to be much more fun for counselors and campers if these three criteria are met.
A nominal start-up fee for your camp will be $49.95 which includes input at any given time when questions arise once you are in the camp data base. My time is your time. We can be creative together. Themes, camp songs, slogans, handshakes, camp recipes, games (indoor and outdoor), crafts, and adventures make up a good camp session. The possibilities are endless…..and fun to prepare and execute.
You have access to all newsletters whenever you need reminders. I will personalize your camp to meet your needs and keep you updated on all camp recipes, crafts, and ideas to keep your camp exciting for the campers and the counselor for as many years or days as you intend to continue it.
Contact JoAnn at: www.joannmatthews.com, e-mail: ja_matthews@charter.net, or; write to JoAnn Matthews, P.O. Box 5873, Granbury, TX 76049-0873. E-mail your criteria for the camp. A nominal fee of $9.99 is charged for the camp design which includes all of the above and discussion points to consider. A copy of the recent article published by Granbury Showcase Magazine and authored by JoAnn relating to children’s camps is available on request.
Camp Mimi has been a hit with our grandchildren. Your camp will create memories for a lifetime. The key to a successful camp is: be silly, have fun, and be educational without the campers realizing it is a learning curve. Lifetime relationships are formed and values are shared through home-based camps.
**Butterfly Biscuits
1 can biscuits [cut each in half placing rounded sides touching. Pinch the middle to secure for baking]
Bake as directed on biscuit package.
While biscuits are hot, spread strawberry preserves or a favorite jam on each wing to secure a slice of strawberry.
Optional: Pipe some white icing or dessert topping over the top and down the middle of the butterfly for accent.
**Worms ‘n Dirt
Scoop out Dixie Cup Vanilla Ice Cream into dish. Add gummy worms. Sprinkle with either malt or chocolate sprinkles.
**Other recipes can include: Breakfast Banana Splits, Pretzel Twists, Toads-in-a-Hole, Pizza Sticks, Baked French Fries, Mandarin Orange Chicken Salad with Grapes, Travel Soup (after telling the Rock Soup Fable), and many other fun eats.
Two Camp Mimi rules: “You eat, You cook.” “You mess up, You clean up.” The kiddos have fun memorizing these simple rules. They pretty much follow-through even with the clean-up. The cooking part to the campers is fun and something they do not get to do often at home. Watch them don those aprons and be ready to stir. Ask JoAnn about simple aprons.
